Compressing a PDF to shrink its size

This tool rebuilds each page of a PDF as an image and adjusts the resolution and JPEG quality to reduce file size. It is especially effective for scanned documents and photo-heavy PDFs. Just pick one of three compression levels and see the original size, compressed size, and reduction ratio.

Everything runs in your browser via pdf.js, so your PDF is never uploaded to a server. Easily slim files down to meet email attachment or upload size limits.

Frequently asked questions

What happens when I compress?
Each page is rebuilt as an image, so text selection and search will no longer work. The appearance is largely preserved, but it is not suitable if you need to keep editing the document as text.
How much smaller will it get?
It depends on the PDF's content. Scanned images and high-resolution photos can shrink a lot, while a lightweight text-only PDF may actually get larger.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Compression happens entirely in your browser and no file is sent anywhere.
